Jan Thrope - Author
Jan Thrope didn’t set out to write a photojournalism book about Cleveland’s urban core. The process was jump-started when a boy she was tutoring was overcome by fear of his neighborhood. She began exploring his environment in hopes of finding a way to lessen his fears. Who and what she found there became the basis for her nonprofit, Inner Visions of Cleveland and her book; Inner Visions: Grassroots Stories of Truth and Hope, the 2012 Next Generation Indie Book Award Grand Prize winner for non-fiction and first place winner for current events and social change.

Driving up and down Cleveland city streets, often with a camera held out low through an open window, this licensed social worker and independent chemical dependency counselor, with a BA in sociology and a masters in art, was struck by the brutality and hopelessness pervading the landscape of her own city.
But, instead of looking away, she looked closer.  And she discovered vibrant creative individuals who perform daily miracles that significantly impact and improve the lives of the people in their community.  They are the source of daring innovative ideas, boundless talent, and real hope.

Thrope’s nonprofit organization is dedicated to connecting these catalysts for change with whatever resources they need to help their community projects grow and flourish
